  1. Warm and cold running water
  2. Great blogging friends
  3. Coffee
  4. A very supportive family

We are called

I have been thinking a lot about how we identify ourselves lately.  Some names we choose for ourselves and others we are given.  I chose to nip mama in the bud, but I love it when the girls say mom in that special girl way.

It is important to me that the girls understand how important they are, so their nicknames are very important to me.  I know someone who calls her son boy because he is autistic and she does not think he knows the difference.  I want my girls to know they mean the world to me, so you will often hear me call them princess or sweet pea.  When Emily was a baby her favorite food was peaches, so we called her peaches.  They were sweet and so is she.

It is important to me that my girls provide proper respect, so we use the title Mr. or Miss to recognize that respect.  The guys at my office always think it is funny when I introduce them to the girls as Mr. Joel or Mr. Ray.  One of them told the girls one day that they could just call him by his first name. My girls put him in his place rather quickly.

I am trying to keep in mind that the way we are identified is very important.  I’m striving to identify people in a more positive manner.  I found myself telling the girls the other day the little man at the gas station would help us get gas in the car.  I realized how demeaning that sounded.  Now I try for the nice man will help mommy get her gas.

When I started this post I intended to tell you about the names I chose for my girls and why they were chosen.  I will have to  get back to you one that one because I got a little off track, but the rant felt pretty good.

NaBloPoMo Nearly Over

Just a few days to go until NaBloPoMo is finished.  I have been posting every day (some days more than once) since I read about NaBloPoMo.  I think it was a good way to get into blogging and gave me a reason to keep posting even when I questioned whether anyone was even out there.  After November I plan to keep posting, but I’m pretty sure it will not be every day.  I may still have time to if I do not have as many posts to read.

I went to work for a few hours this morning and then I was off to jury duty.  This has been a very interesting process.  I have learned a ton about our justice system.

We joined blockbuster online and have movies sent to our house.  So far, I really like it.  There is a feature where the system recommends movies based on  how you rate the movies you have seen.  This came up in my recommended movies under “Documentary”.

Should I be scared?  Should I see a shrink?  Do I have a split personality I do not know about?

I drew a kokopelli onto the potholder and then used it to machine quilt around. Overall I think it came out pretty good. It looked a little plain around the edges so I put stars in the red corner squares. I drew the stars freehand so they would each be a little different. I think it fit well with the kokopelli to not be precise about the stars. I hope that my Aunt will enjoy it. It finished at approximately 8X10 so it’s just the right size for a hot pad.

Still fighting with the fish hot pad. I may post it later this week for suggestions as I do not feel like I am getting any closer with it.

Craftiness Update

I’m still working on potholders.  I feel like I have been working on nothing but potholders lately.  I want to have one for each of my aunts for Christmas.  I pieced a red and cream one this evening and hope to quilt it tonight before I go to bed.  It will have a kokopelli  design quilted into the center and swirls around the outside.  My aunt who it’s for will love it.

I was so intent on it I almost forgot to post today.  I would like to finish, so just a short post today.
