Archive for February, 2008

Since I am back up and picturing I thought I would share some photos from my holiday.  I can not remember having a white Christmas in my entire life.  This year it was as close as it has ever been.  The day after Christmas it snowed and we met my brother and his kids in the woods for an afternoon of snow, hot chocolate, a fire, and fun.

Shayna was the queen of the mountian

This was the favorite of the three sleds.  Doesn’t Hope look happy?

Well at least they love me.

Most people refer to the three amigos.  At our house it’s the four.  Check out the fire in the background.

They gained a little snow along the way.

I have the best nephew in the world.  (OK maybe I’m a little proud)

He is so gentle with Emmy.  What a great cousin.

Frog Blankie

I am working on a baby size (32X40) blanket.  I have all the pieces cut and have started piecing.

This is what the general layout will be.  The frog squares will finish at four inches.

See how busy we were today.  The smaller pieces are nearly all together.  It was a lot slower going than it should have been.  I just felt like my head might fall off any minute and breathing was a major chore.

Cute little bag

I was busy a few days ago and plugged out this super cute tiny little bag. It should be just the right size to hold a phone, a small water bottle, a drivers license, and a debit card. Perfect for throwing in a gym bag. I have not yet decided if I am going to keep it or share it. I am thinking it might be a good pay it forward gift.

When I started the bag, I planned to have a small pocket on the inside the right size to hold a drivers license. I thought I had it all on the right direction, but when I turned the bag my very cute little pocket was on the outside back of the bag. Ugh. I ended up finding Jack (the seam ripper) and taking off the pocket. I may still put on a snap, but I am not sure yet.

Have I mentioned yet that I love my new laptop and the ability to post pics again? J always does such a great job keeping me up to speed.

Life these days

I reached my goal of losing two pounds this week!!!! Woo Hoo!

Sorry I haven’t been around as much the past few weeks. Things have been crazy around here.

My Grandma was diagnosed with a large tumor in her colon. They did surgery and got the mass out, but it has spread to her lymph system. She has been the hospital two weeks today. Hopefully they will be able to send her home tomorrow. Still not sure what will be needed for follow up care. She will meet with an Oncologist after she is released from the hospital for more information. This picture is from last July4 when the girls and I rode on the float in the parade with her. What a fun time the girls had. I’m so glad we did this!

My Dad has broken his back again. His spinal column will not quit growing after the breaks and it ends up pushing into the spinal cord. Not a good situation. They did surgery on Wednesday to remove the excess bone and cement it together so it does not continue to grow. So far so good. He has regained some feeling in his leg and was able to come home from the hospital earlier than expected.

This morning I took Emily to the pediatrician. She has had a fever for several days and it is just not getting any better. They did a chest X-ray and a breathing treatment. She has new medicine and seems to be coughing less. They ran a rapid flu test on her and it tested positive. Poor little thing is positive for influenza A. We are keeping her as comfortable as possible and offering fluids every few minutes to keep her from getting dehydrated.

I have been sick lately. Upper respiratory stuff going on. The wheezing is back and I feel like crud. I went back to the Doctor today and have new drugs. Hopefully they will work and I will start to feel on the mend soon. I am not used to being down, and I don’t like it! I asked about going to work out tomorrow and was given a big fat no way. That means I am going to be one short of my goal for this week. I am a little frustrated about it, but since I can’t breath, maybe it’s for the best.

My new laptop is here, so I am once again able to share pics in my posts.

Tomorrow I hope to sleep in and then do a little shopping for a baby quilt I am working on for my cousin. I might even get time to spread out the purple quilt tomorrow and get it put together. not so sure about that one though. I’m still pretty tired and not feeling great, so we might just rent some movies and veg out for the weekend.

House Meme

Sweet P did this one a while back and I thought it looked like fun.  I spent over an hour and a half at the gym tonight, so I did not feel like writing.  I felt guilty about not posting for a couple of days, so here you go.

My House Meme

What kind of soap is in your shower: Dove cucumber extra moisturizing

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? Nope. It’s the wrong season here for watermelon and I hate it bland.

What would you change about your living room? I would love a sewing room, so I could move my corner of the living room into a different area and leave it messy without complaints.

Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty? Clean. J is really good about making sure they stay that way.

What is on top of your refrigerator? An electric roaster, tinfoil, parchment, saran wrap, freezer paper, a warm ice pack.

What color or design is on your shower curtain? Our shower curtain is clear. I got a clear one when Hope was tiny so I could set her in her car seat and see her when I showered. Now it is clear so I can let the girls shower and I can see them to make sure they are OK. (I sound like a very overprotective parent here)

How many plants are in your home? Some in the fish tank and a few paperwhite bulbs the girls got at Christmas time.

Is you bed made right now? Nope.

Comet or Soft Scrub? Soft Scrub

Is your closet organized? Not since the girls were born and we now have 4 peoples stuff in 1 closet.

Can you describe your flashlight? I have several flashlights. I have a tiny LCD one on my keys, a big blue one by the TV, a small blue one in the car, a red one in the bathroom, and a dome one on top of the dryer. Can you tell I lived for a long time where the power went out about once a week?

Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home? When I pour myself something I always pick glass. I don’t care for plastic unless it has a fountain soda in it.

Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now? Yep.

If you have a garage, is it cluttered? We don’t have a garage.

Curtains or blinds? We have blinds in all the rooms in our house.

How many pillows do you sleep with? There are two on my side and two on J’s side. I tend to throw off the second one though so I start with two at the beginning of the night and end with one.

Do you sleep with any lights on at night? No lights, but I do sleep with the TV on until J comes to bed.

How often do you vacuum? J vacuums.

Standard toothbrush or electric? electric

What color is your toothbrush? White and blue.

Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch? We have one next to the front door and one by the patio door.

What is in your oven right now? Nothing, but it does need to be cleaned. Maybe tomorrow.

Is there anything under your bed? Nope, but I would like to get some of those crates for ornaments and wrapping paper.

Chore you hate doing most? Scrubbing behind the toilet.

What retro items are in your home?

Do you have a separate room that you use as on office? No, it’s in the living room. If we had a separate room it would either be a play room or a craft room for me.

How many mirrors are in your home? Two in the bathroom and several small ones the girls play with.

What color are your walls? White – we rent right now and I don’t want to paint to just have to paint again when we move.

What does your house smell like right now? Cinnamon – I had a candle burning

Favorite candle scent? Home Interiors had this killer banana nut bread that I used to love.

What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator? Closest thing to pickles is relish

What color is your favorite bible? Pink

Ever been on your roof? Not at this house, but when I was younger we used to jump off the roof onto a air mattress.

Do you own a stereo? Yes.

How many TVs do you have? Two

How many house phones? No land lines, only two cell phones.

Do you have a housekeeper? No, but I think one would be nice a couple of times a month. Any volunteers?

What style do you decorate in? Comfortable and eclectic. Still in that stage where nothing too nice because you never know when it’s going to have puke or chocolate milk on it.

Do you like solid colors or prints in furniture? I prefer tone-on-tone prints. Solids show spots too easily, but I also am not into crazy big prints.

Is there a smoke detector in your house? Yes, one in every room. J used to be a firefighter. Did you remember to test yours when the time changed?

In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you could only make one quick trip? The girls and J’s computer.

If you want to join in count yourself tagged and let me know. I would love to come read your responses.

Pool Day

The girls and I got up early this morning and went shopping for a little while and then spend an hour in the pool at the YMCA.  I came home and ate a yogurt and some tuna fish.  I felt tired but great.  Tuesday we have our first meeting with the fitness counselor.  So far, so good.

So far since I decided to get healthier, I am doing pretty good with eating healthy for breakfast and lunch.  I have even fit in healthy snacks the past few days.   My problem time is in the evening.  I did pick up some healthier snacks, but I caved and ate some naughty snacks during movie night last night.  I do have to say though, I am pretty proud of not having chocolate for 4 days now.  There are nutty bars and hershey kisses in the kitchen and I still have not touched them.  Still no french frys so far during french fry free February.

YMCA, it’s always fun to stay at the YMCA… you are welcome for the earworm. 😉

I joined the YMCA tonight. I need to get in better shape and I love that I can take the kids to the kid zone and they can play well supervised while I go work out or walk. We got the family membership. The other thing I really liked is that the memberships are able to be used no matter which YMCA we go to, so I can go to the one by my house, the one in the town my parents live in or one when I am away on business trips. I get so sore and tired after sitting all day in the car on the way to the meetings and then on conference room chairs once we get there.

I was weighed last week when I went to the doctor’s office so I know my starting weight. I am not brave enough to share it here, but I will probably keep you up to date on my progress. I feel like I have a long way to go and I have been letting it get to me for a while. I figure I won’t get anywhere if I don’t start. Tonight I had a reasonably healthy home cooked meal and went to join the gym. (Does it count as going to the gym if we just took a tour and then got our membership in order?)

Hopefully tomorrow morning I will be able to go before work. I’m going to go now so I can look at what classes I want to try and kill myself make myself a better person in.
