I finally finished the frog quilt.  Here it is on the porch.  It was late afternoon, so the tree next to the porch is throwing shadows.  I am really happy with how it came out.  I stitched the binding to the back and curled it around to the front and then I used a decorative stitch to attach it to the front.

Baby Savannah is due in three weeks.  I plan to give her mom the quilt when I see her around the fourth of July.  I am so excited for Tim and Nikki.  She is lucky to be getting such a great mom.

Last night I cut out gorgeous cream sashings and purple corner squares for the purple quilt.  I sewed the corners to the sashings and I thought I was ready to lay out and start assembly today.

This morning I started to lay out the quilt on my bed.  It’s the only spot big enough to lay it out and be able to see it all without the girls “helping” me rearrange the blocks while I am working on it.  I got the first row down and it looked great.  Something seemed wrong, but I just kept going.  Half way through the second row I ran out of sashing strips for the sides.  I miscounted the number of sashing strips I needed by 28.  I went ahead and laid out the rest of the strips with the corners attached and the blocks and imagined how great it will look once I get the rest of the sashing pieces done.

I went in to cut more of the pieces and discovered I did not have enough left to finish.  I went to town to pick up the remaining 1/2 yard that will let me finish my project.  The LQS I bought the fabric at is not open on Sundays.  It’s closer to my office, so I usually shop there during the week and I did not realize they were not open on Sundays until today.   I went to LQS#2 and they carry that line but are out of stock in cream.  Would I like the matching yellow, pink, or tan?   Two other stores in town do not carry it at all.  Two and a half hours later I return home without my cream fabric.  😦

While I was at LQS#2 I found the cutest fabric panel.  I talked myself out of it while I was there, but I am going back for it tomorrow.  It was a panel that matched the monkey fabric, but was a panel with the 5 funky monkeys jumping on the bed scenes.   My cousin is having a baby in a couple of months and I think she might just get the funky monkey baby quilt.  Who wants a boring pastel blankey when you can have sock monkeys?  I love sock monkeys.  Maybe I need a sock monkey panel for above my sewing area.

SNOW!!!

It’s snowing at my house.  We get snow a maximum of twice a year at my house and it usually lasts for about two hours.  I came home from work tonight and made dinner.  During dinner J asked why I didn’t tell him it’s snowing.  I thought he might just be kidding me.  We finished dinner and went out to play.

There were some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen.  J brought out spoons and some snow cone syrup and we had real snow cones.  What a special treat!

Hope woke up this morning with pink eye again.  We thought she would be able to go back to school tomorrow, but with the snow I think she might end up with a snow day tomorrow.  Her school tends to be very careful when they decide about keeping them out.  There have been a lot of days that I thought she should be able to go to school no problem and the school thought it was too icy.  School was closed yesterday because it was icy in the morning.  It was clear by 10:30, but they had already closed it for the day.

Purple quilt update  – I have pieced all but two squares.  I originally planned to make it 4 squares wide and 5 squares long with 8 inch blocks and a 2 inch sashing.  After laying it out, I thought it might be too small, so I went with 5 wide and 6 long.  Any thoughts on how wide the sashing should be?  This will be the first quilt I have sashed and I do not want it to look small, but I also do not want it to be overpowering.

My purple quilt is really coming along. I planned to make it scrappy, but I can see some dominate fabrics showing. I will incorporate more fabrics as I do the next blocks because I am almost out of the ones in the pics. I have only been quilting a short while and this is the first sampler type I have done. I am having a ball putting this one together.

This will not be the final layout, but you get the idea of where I am going. Don’t you love my design wall? I love having a metal front door. Note the super cute marbles holding up the pieces. 🙂

This is one of my favorite blocks yet. I love the way the pattern comes out with the smaller blocks.

I found the green fabric with the purple flowers as a shop about 9 hours away and they only had a 10 inch remnant remaining. I fell in love and bought it just for this quilt. I love the way the green acts as an accent now.

Sorry it took so long without pics. I finally figured out a way to get pics up on photobucket with my laptop being broken. I can not reach the USB ports on the loaner computer my husband is graciously sharing with me, so I have not been able to upload from my camera. Then it hit me there is another perfectly good computer sitting across the room from me with USB ports on the front. J hates it when I use his computer, but he was sleeping and I think he just likes to complain. I no more than turn the computer on and log into Photobucket than he wakes up and comes out to see me on his computer. To which I hear (of course), “why are you on my computer when yours is also on and just sitting there?”

Kokopelli

I drew a kokopelli onto the potholder and then used it to machine quilt around. Overall I think it came out pretty good. It looked a little plain around the edges so I put stars in the red corner squares. I drew the stars freehand so they would each be a little different. I think it fit well with the kokopelli to not be precise about the stars. I hope that my Aunt will enjoy it. It finished at approximately 8X10 so it’s just the right size for a hot pad.

Still fighting with the fish hot pad. I may post it later this week for suggestions as I do not feel like I am getting any closer with it.

Potholders galore

I finished binding the yellow/red/purple pot holder. It is free motion quilted with three flowers. After looking at it finished, I feel like it could use some more quilting. It is cute, but it looks sorta plain. Maybe I will see if I can go in and add a little more. Maybe some echoing around the flowers? Not sure yet.

I started a new one today with the cutest little angel gardening. I pieced the top, free motion quilted some flowers and curlys on it. I just finished pulling through the last of the strings on the quilting. Hopefully tonight I can get the binding cut and put on the top so I can tack the back on at lunchtime tomorrow.

I am starting on 30 days of craftiness. Join in if you would like and comment so I can come see your work. I figured this would be a great time because I will be finished just before Christmas and it will give me a chance to get some presents made.

For todays Daily Craftiness I am working on a potholder. It is pieced and I have tried about 20 different free motion quilting designs so far. I will pick one and then I will just need to finish it with binding. I will be making a purple quilt and this was a test block for one of the sampler blocks later on.

A couple of weeks ago I started on presents. Here are a few I have already finished. I made a few fabric bowls for my family. Here is a look at the two for my grandma. I really hope she likes them. She is into roosters, so it should be right up her alley. Working with them I felt a little out of my element, but hopefully she will feel the rooster love.

I made a few pot holders to go with an electric pot for my niece and a craft fair at work.
