I have been seriously slacking on Thankful Thursday lately. I planned to write a post each Thursday for the year and then recap them on Thanksgiving. At this rate, I will be seriously lacking in November. It’s not that I am not thankful, I just get busy and remember that I meant to write my thankful Thursday post several days later. Hopefully I’m back on track now.

I often comment that God knew just the right time to put me in. I am thankful for the everyday conveniences we take for granted so often.

1. Clothes washers and dryers. I used to whine about having to take my wash to the laundromat and am very thankful to have a washer and dryer in our house. I can’t imagine trying to wash all our stuff by hand.

2. Lighting – in Oregon the winters and evenings seem so long. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for the pioneers to live here with the long dark winters.

3. A frost free freezer. I wish ours was a little larger so we could stock up on sales a little better, but I am thankful for it.

4. Hand held showers make bathing small children so much easier than it would have been in the past when my mom used the kitchen sink.

5. The dishwasher – need I say more?

Last weeks Thankful Thursday was eaten by wordpress.  Hopefully this week will work a lot better.

1. Trail mix – it’s one of my new favorite snacks.  Plenty of protein and enough sugar to make me feel like I ate a snack.

2.  Bags of mixed veggies for stir fry in the produce section are great prepared for snacks.

3. Bottles of water.  Today I forgot to take mine with me to work and I was so dehydrated by the time I got home.

4.  Honey almond flake with granola clusters cereal – it’s great for breakfast or a bedtime snack.

5. Individually frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts – lots you can make with them and they are fast.

Still progressing on my goal to get healthier.  I was out of town for work this week a couple of days and still made it to the gym for some cardio.  I went tonight with the girls, but I don’t think taking the girls to the pool can be considered cardio.  I came home tired though and did not feel up to going back to the gym to work out once they were in bed.  I will try to go a little earlier tomorrow so the girls can go to childcare while J and I work out.

Yesterday I tried to do Thankful Thursday, but I was just to tired.  I’m still looking for the truck that ran me over.  Evidentially moms are not immune to germs.  My chest finally hurt so bad J suggested I should go to the doctor and I complied.  The results – ear infection, sinus infection, bronchitis causing asthma attacks.  No wonder I felt like death warmed over.  I have good drugs and am starting to feel much better!  I’m even going to try work today.

This week I am thankful for:

1. Unexpected presents just because.

2. Quite sewing time while the Girls are resting or asleep.

3. A husband who takes care of paying the bills and doing the taxes.

4. Hot showers.

5. Hope is doing really well in school.

This week it is kind of a mix.  I usually do better about themes, but I’m having a hard time concentrating here.

Thankful Thursday

I decided that one day a year is not nearly enough to be thankful, so here goes week one of Thankful Thursday. I will try to post 5 things I am thankful for each Thursday this year.

  1. Warm and cold running water
  2. Great blogging friends
  3. Coffee
  4. A very supportive family
  5. A comfortable couch and a good book or movie

Giving Thanks

This month I have been thinking a lot about things I am thankful for. I decided to start a list and have been working on it for a couple of weeks so it would be ready for Thanksgiving. I think it’s been good for me to keep in mind all the good things in my life. In no particular order:

  • The love and support from my family
  • A comfortable place to live
  • A great job
  • A car that runs well and gets decent gas mileage
  • My girls are healthy and happy (most of the time)
  • Electricity
  • My hair dryer (I am glad I wasn’t born is a prior century)
  • A husband who understands when on the weekends I want to stay up most of the night crafting after the girls are in bed and then need to sleep in the next morning.
  • A team of people committed to helping my girls grow up to be well rounded individuals.
  • Healthcare
  • Chocolate & Dr. Pepper on a rough day.
  • Happy, Happy, Happy (That’s what Emily says when she is having a good day)
  • To live in a country where I am free to worship as I choose
  • My daughter goes to a school that cares for her
  • Grandparents – no one can make you feel as special as a grandparent can. (I had a couple of really great ones, and I miss them terribly)
  • My girls have good manners (most of the time)
  • Pancakes (the girls LOVE them and I can be the best mom in the world by just making them pancakes)
  • Quiet (it happens rarely at my house, so I am especially thankful for it when it happens)
  • My favorite jacket
